Gollinkambi Kindred

The brother, and possibly one time husband of Freya, Freyr is one of the Vanir, exchanged for peace at the conclusion of the war between the Aesir and Vanir.  There is only a single extant myth of any length dealing with Freyr, Skirnismal.  In this tale, Freyr sits upon Hlidskjalf, and, sees Gerd in Jotunheim.  He is immediately smitten by her and sends his servant, Skirnir, to woo her for him.  She initially refuses his relayed advances, even when he offers things of great value, some of which he doesn’t actually own, such as Draupnir.  She eventually relents after a series of threats, although this section of the tale seems to have been transmitted in a less polished form than the beginning of the story.  Presumably, Freyr and Gerd go on to a happy and enduring marriage.  Freyr is associated with the “Battle Boar”  Gullinbursti, and with the Swedish royal house through his aspect of Ing-Frey.
